Twigín was founded in the beautiful town of Kenmare by Irish artist Ciara O’Connor. Ciara moved her life and family from the pulse of Dublin to her family’s ancestral home in the summer of 2022. Inspired by the town’s creative spirit, she sought a way to weave her art into sustainable treasures that honour Irish heritage while leaving a lighter footprint on the land.

At the heart of her work are thread drawings—intricate, stitched portraits that celebrate the soul of Ireland. From the poets, musicians, and rebels who shaped our history to evocative scenes of contemporary Irish life, these works are a visual love letter to our culture. Through the intuitive process of free-motion embroidery, Ciara captures the movement and spirit of her subjects, reimagining them for a modern audience who values both art and ancestry.

Every piece is crafted with a deep reverence for the environment. Fabric products are created from 100% Certified Organic Fairtrade and screen-printed using water-based, chemical free inks. Paper products are produced using solar and wind green energy, eco-friendly inks and recycled paper. Twigín partners up with the most ethical suppliers in the country, people who share our vision for a greener future.

The name Twigín is a tender echo of the past—a childhood nickname given to Ciara by her mother, Doris. It stands as a tribute to Doris’s strength and the tenacity that inspired Ciara to take the leap into starting her own business. Even the colours of the collection are pulled from the earth around them, mirroring the vibrant hues of the Kenmare hedgerows: the gorse yellow of sun-soaked furze, the foxglove purple of fairy thimbles, the forest green of the deep woods, and the fiery orange-red of the montbretia that sets the ditches aglow in late summer.

Twigín is more than a gift brand; it is a stitched narrative of home, a celebration of Irish life, and a commitment to leave the world as beautiful as we found it.

About Ciara

Ciara O’Connor is an Irish visual artist who blends free-motion embroidery, hand stitching, and raw-edged appliqué to create her signature work.

Born in Glasgow to Kerry-born parents and raised in Dublin, she studied Fine Art in Galway, specializing in painting and printmaking. Following a period of travel, she spent several years in Brooklyn, New York, where she expanded her creative toolkit through photography, millinery, and silversmithing. It wasn't until her return to Ireland in 2018 that she discovered her passion for textiles. Though a latecomer to the medium, she found her niche in free-motion embroidery—a technique where she drops the sewing machine's feed dogs to use the needle as a pen. This "drawing with thread" method is now the cornerstone of her artistic process for her brand, Twígín.

The joy of Twigín interplays with her conceptual studio work, which focuses on trauma and recovery. There she integrates sculpture, installation, and video, fusing traditional textiles heritage with narrative-led conceptualism. An international exhibitor, Ciara also facilitates workshops at institutions such as the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Flux Studios, and Artform School of Art.
